7 Hot Tips To Improve Search Engine Placement Of Your Website
April 7, 2011

Getting your site to rank on Google and other search engines is key to a successful blog. Blogs are all about having readers and the more you have the more money you can make from it. The challenge here is how to write you blog posts and make it easier for search engines to rank you so others can find your blog.

Here are 7 of the hottest tips to increase your chances of being ranked and increase your traffic flow.

#1 – Understand SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Take some time and get to know what search engine optimization is yourself. When you grasp a better understanding of how it works you can write high quality content both for your users and search engines. This will increase your chances of being ranked for the right keywords and still make your articles easy to read.

You will want to do a bit of keyword research as well to understand how it works and what keywords to rank for. The best course I have found to achieving this is Blogging to the bank. The most important part of all of this is to learn how to research your keywords via Google’s keyword tool and then add that keyword to the title of your post, the url and within the content of your blog post backed up with LSI keywords.

#2 – Backlinking

Once you have your keyword picked out you need to do a little backlinking on it. Backlinks are links pointing back to your blog post and the anchor text should be your keyword and LSI keywords you are shooting for from tip 1. There are a ton of services out there which sell you packages of backlinks but from my testing they are all worthless links. Out of a package of 5,000 id be happy to see 50 of those links actually be used to help rank your site.

Instead you should either use a professional service such as Rank Pay in which you only pay them when your site ranks for the certain keyword you picked. If it’s something you want to do yourself here are a few tips to getting quality backlinks that matter.

Forums – create a signature with anchor text back to your page. I recommend finding as many high valued EDU or GOV sites that will allow you to do so.
Guest posting – on other blogs and anchor text back to one of your pages. Many high valued PR blogs in your niche allow you to become a guest poster. By posting a high quality post you will gain exposure for your blog and also have a high quality backlink to your blog.
Manual Bookmarking Submissions – Bookmarking is a quick and easy way to get high quality links pointing back to you.
Social Profiles – There are hundreds of social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin. Simply add a link back to your site for another high quality backlink.

#3 – Quality useful information

The easiest way above all once you have traffic coming to your site is to just provide quality posts that help people. Many times they will share your post with friends and with other social buttons.

#4 – Use other share networks

Recently I found out about share networks that have really helped connect me with bloggers and also provide a quality backlink. They allow you to share you posts on their network where others can like and comment on your post. Here is a list of the best ones I have found so far BlogEngage, BlogInteract, Blokube and BizSugar

#5 – Ping your blog

After you update your blog you should ping it. This forces search engines and other networks to crawl your site and index it. Often times this leads to backlinks and more exposure for your site. Be sure to also include your RSS feed when it’s asked. The two I use at the moment are Pingomatic and Pingler.

#6 – Link Networks

This is a method that requires a bit of work and connecting with other blog owners. By swapping links on your front pages you can quickly build the authority of your blog. If you have the extra money to spend I recommend using

#7 – Internal and External linking

When creating your content don’t be afraid to link to old posts of yours or other posts on others blogs. By internal linking to your own posts spiders can re crawl your content and re index it if it was missed some how. It also keeps the content fresh. When linking to other posts on others blogs a wordpress notification is sent to that admin letting them know your site just linked to them (also known as a trackback) Often times the admin will view your site and return the favor.

Very useful tips. I have used some of them such as ping, backlinking, and keywords optimizing. I think I will try the other method.

  • Hey Sean, I think you hit it with #3 which is often overlooked. The search engines are just going to get smarter from here on out so the best thing to do is write for the readers.

Plus like you said if you write good articles they will get spread around on social sites and through emails.

    Another Great article Sean,

I thought wordpress does pinging automatically, but I’ll use the sites that you suggest anyway to make sure.

    Thanks for sharing,

Yup wordpress does ping a new networks off hand but you can always customize it and make it better. Look for a blog post very soon with the list of networks I ping automatically after each post via wordpress šŸ˜‰
