Top WordPress Plugins You Need For Your Blog
February 6, 2010

This is a list of plugins you should consider using for your blog. Many of these plugins help with SEO ( Search Engine Optimization) which allows your blog to be spidered and indexed faster. Social networking is also key here allowing you to interact with your readers which makes a world of difference and promotes repeat visitors/readers.

Comment Luv – This is a great way to give back to the readers who comment on your blog posts. This plug will visit the site of the comment author while they type their comment. It will retrieve a selection of their last blog post, tweets or digg submissions which the commenter can choose one of to include at the bottom of their comment when they click on submit. This plugin also helps with increasing the amount of comments your blog receives as you are giving a little something back to them.

Contact Form 7 – Simple contact form that you can add to a page of your blog. Great way to get in touch with your readers on a more personal level. I have received many JV requests and was able to connect with many of my readers on a more personal level because of it.

Google XML Sitemaps with qTranslate Support – Creates Google sitemaps that are compliant XML-Sitemaps for your wordpress blog. Supports all of your WordPress pages as well as custom pages. Every time you edit or create a post, your sitemap is updated and all major search engines that support the sitemap protocol such as Google, MSN,Yahoo and Ask are notified about the update.

Headspace 2 – This is your ultimate SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tool for wordpress. It allows you to create a custom title and description for each of your blog posts. Also allows you to customize a wide range of things on your blog to help with SEO tactics.

No Self Ping – Simple plugin but it works great. I constantly link to other blog posts within my own blog which always created a headache with pings telling me I linked. This plugin simply removes any notification of a self ping.

Sociable – Make it easy for your readers to bookmark and share your posts on many different networks with a single click. This is a great viral tool to gain more visitors to your blog with no additional efforts.

Tweet MeMe – I love this plugin and you will see it on many big name blogs . It displays a retweet button at the top of every post as you see on mine in the top right. Your visitors can then click to retweet your post and share it with all of their followers. It also puts a @username in front of the retweet for further advertising of your site.

WordPress Database Backup – Backs up your entire wordpress blog as often as you want. Just encase things turn south you can rely on this plugin to get you back on your feet quickly.

WordPress Mobile Edition – Easy to install and set up this plug makes your blog mobile friendly. I have it installed on this blog right now. Just load it up in your iTouch, iPhone or any other internet mobile device to check it out.
